Urban Population and population growth rates
Uganda is one of Africa’s most rapidly urbanizing countries, with a population base of 34 million, a high population growth rate of 3.4 percent and a high rate of urban growth estimated at 5.1 percent per annum and total urbanization rate of15% of the total population.
The urban population has been growing at the rate of at least 4.4% per annual since 2008. The estimated urban population growth rate in 2011 was 4.8% and in July 2012 the urban population growth rate was 5.1%.
It is projected that by the year 2035 Uganda’s population will have grown to 68.4 million, of which 30 percent will be in urban areas.
Uganda has one capital city being Kampala City and over 58 small to medium size towns.
The capital Kampala City is under the administration of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and towns are administered by local government and the relevant town council authorities.
