Lukiiko of Busoga
In 1906, the British protectorate accomplished an administrative amalgamation of the small Kingdoms of pre-colonial Busoga into a single integrated structure.The Lukiiko of Busoga was established with representatives from the small pre-colonial kingdoms consisted of the Busoga Lukiiko. In the same year Semei Kakungulu was appointed President of the Lukiiko, his reign ended with his resignation in 1913. The resignation of Semei Kakungulu led the collapse of the political structure and the abolition of the office of “president of the Lukiiko of Busoga”.
Isembantu
In 1919 the Isembantu Kyabaziga office was established as an alternative to the President of the Lukiiko of Busoga and Ezekeeri Wako was appointed the first Isebantu Kyabazinga. In September 1967, Obote imposed a new ‘Republican’ constitution on the nation. All kingdoms were abolished in the new constitution. In 1996, His Royal Highness Henry Wako Muloki was reinstated as Kyabazinga Isebantu of Busoga after the approval of the new constitution of Uganda. He ruled until Monday 1 September 2008, when he passed on at the age of 87. The death of the Kyabazinga has caused succession problems which have taken some time to resolve.
