Location
Kidepo Valley National Park which was gazetted in 1962 is located in Kaabong District in the notheastern part of Uganda along the border with South Sudan and Kenya. The park covers an area of 1,442 sq km. The park is 700km from Kampala. It is the most isolated and the most magnificent park as it ranks among the Africa finest wilderness. The park is 220 km by road northwest of Moroto Town, the largest town in the sub-region.
Biodiversity
The park has a big game and is a home of over 77 mammal species and over 475 bird species. The savannah landscape extends far beyond the human horizons outlined by distant mountain ranges.
Water is scarce during the dry season and can only be found in wetlands and remnant pools in the broad Narus Valley near Apoka. These seasonal oases, combined with the open, savannah terrain, make the Narus Valley the park’s prime game viewing location.
Rivers
The park has two rivers Kidepo River and Narus River which dry during the dry season but leaving pools of water for the wildlife.
