Lake Bunyonyi is located 7 km west of Kabale Town in south western Uganda close to the border with Rwanda. Kabala Town is 410 km from Kampala City , the capital  of Uganda. The lake   is about 25 km long and 7 km wide with an area of 61 sq km. It is one of the few lakes in the region that is free of bilharzias and safe for swimming. It has 29 islands including Punishment and Bushara islands. The lake is popular for water sports and for the beautiful surrounding. It has two landing sites Kyevu and Muko.

Wildlife
Fish is very scarce and the lake contains limited number of fish including Mud fish, Cray fish and Mirrowcarp but plenty of otters. There are over 200 bird species which have been recorded.
