NAMASAGALI is the oldest university in Busoga region. It was licensed by the Ministry of Education and Sports on September 4, 1998. Co-founded by the three district administrations of Jinja, Iganga and Kamuli, which then comprised Busoga region, the university has two campuses. One in Bugembe, 4km from Jinja town at the foothills of Igenge hill and the other on the banks of River Nile in Namasagali town, about 25km from Kamuli town. The university has 1,200 students and offers several courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
