The demand for livestock products is on the increase as a result of the following:
- A number of rural farmers can now afford quality livestock products like chicken, pork and beef because their income levels have increased as a result of the government’s poverty eradication programme
- There are a good number of tourists and other visitors arriving in the country. These visitors often demand prime quality and specialised livestock products
- The products of the livestock industry are inputs in other sectors. Hides and skins are used in leather industry, eggs are used in the baking and confectionary sector, chicken drops are used as fertilisers etc.
- Uganda is a member of COMESA and there is demand which has come about because of this relationship.
- Uganda is also a member of East Community which membership opens the East Africa market to Uganda products.
- There are also opportunities in the Middle East countries as Uganda has good diplomatic relations with the Arab World.
- There are a number of supermarkets in urban areas stocking livestock products which in a way has increased demand for these products
