Challenges facing Entebbe International Airport

The following are the challenges facing Entebbe International Airport:

• Insufficient funds
  The Civil Aviation Authority does not have sufficient funds to keep pace with the advancement in airport equipment and technology.
• Terrorism
  There is a high threat from terrorism in Uganda as attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers. The places targeted by the terrorist include airports and other public places. Equipment and resources to deter terrorists from entering the country are therefore necessary.
• Unskilled
  There is a considerable shortage of mid-level managers and technicians in the airport sector. There is therefore an urgent need to train staff for acquire the necessary skills to enable them fill the positions.
• Low passenger numbers
  Uganda has continued to experience the problem of low passenger numbers and yet the list of airline operators is continuously growing. This may result into unhealthy competition.
• High operational costs
  Air transport is very expensive due to the fees charged at the international airports and increasing fuel costs. The airlines pass the burden on to the passengers through increased airfares.
