The government of Uganda (GOU) has done the following to facilitate the Health Sector;
- Government through 2012/2013 budget allocated 761.6 billion shillings to the sector which account to 8% of the total budget.
- Funds for rehabilitating Mulago Hospital, the national referral and teaching hospital and Kabale, Hoima and Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospitals have been budgeted for in 2012/2013 budget
- Government has tried to motivate and retain health workers through gradual salary increases and construction of staff houses.
- The Government of Uganda with the support from Spanish Government is rehabilitating Kawolo Hospital in Lugazi and Itojo Hospital in Ntungamo
- The government is trying to mitigate the effects of HIV/AIDS by undertaking Prevention strategies such as ABC, Circumcision, and Elimination of Mother to Child Transmission
- Improvement in coordination and management of the delivery of Health and Health related services is a key strategic deliverable by the government of Uganda
- The provision of health services in Uganda is decentralised to the districts and health sub-districts (HSDs) levels which are playing a key role in the delivery and management of health services at those levels.
- Government has focused on expanding its health infrastructure through construction of health facilities in an effort to bring services closer to the people.
- Ugandan Government has aimed at creating a strong national policy formulation capacity, facilitating needs assessment and cost-effective in the health sector.
- In September 2012, the government committed to invest Shs49.5 billion to recruit additional 6,172 professional health workers for HCIVs/IIIs and to enhance the wages of each doctor at HCIVs to Shs2.5 million per month
- Government’s objective in the next financial year is to address poor child and maternal health, weaknesses in the drug management system, inadequate health infrastructure and personnel constraints
