Private universities are by far one of the most dynamic and fastest-growing segments of higher education in Uganda, largely stimulated by unprecedented demand for higher education amidst insufficient supply by public universities.

Private universities have thus emerged to the fore of higher education in Uganda and consequently transformed the system from being homogenously public to a public-private mix in which the latter outnumber the former and enroll a significant proportion of students, especially those that cannot enroll at public universities
