Introduction
The Bachwezi are believed to the founders of the ancient empire of Kitara which included areas of Uganda; northern Tanzania, western Kenya and Eastern Congo. They were believed to possess spiritual powers and they were therefore accorded the status of demi- gods and worshipped by some local people at the time. Many traditional gods in Toro, Bunyoro and Buganda still have the Bachwezi names like Ndahura, Mulindwa, Wamara, and Kagoro.
Duration
The bachwezi are believed to have ruled for a short time and the documented Bachwezi Kings were Ndahura, Mulindwa and Wamara.

The bachwezi apart for founding Kitara kingdom are also credited with the introduction of the long-horned ankole cattle, coffee growing, iron smelting, and the administration under the king
Disappearance of the Bachwezi
It is not clear of what happened to the Bachwezi and there are many stories told about the disappearance of the Bachwezi. There is however a popular belief among scholars that the Bachwezi simply got assimilated into the indigenous tribes and could be the Bahima of Ankole and the Tutsi of Rwanda and Burundi
